Same-Day Crowns

A damaged or decayed tooth can not only cause you to hide your smile, but it can be painful too.  A dental crown can restore the strength, function, and appearance of the tooth and relieve your pain. The team of dentists at our Merritt Island, FL, dental practice offers same-day crowns in just a single appointment.

What Is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped shell that fits over the tooth, providing additional strength and protection. This trusted dentistry procedure is often used to address damage caused by trauma or following root canal therapy

Oftentimes, a lab must create a crown and a patient is left waiting one or more weeks for the permanent crown. This usually means a temporary crown and multiple visits to the dentist's office.

Our dental practice in Merritt Island, FL, offers same-day crowns using CEREC (Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramic) technology. This means you can get a permanent crown in as little as one appointment.

Our Crowns Are Milled Right in the Office

CEREC crowns are designed and milled right in our office in Merritt Island, FL. There is no need to wait several weeks for a traditional crown! Once we take digital impressions of the tooth, the information is entered into specialized software. Then your crown is crafted out of a solid block of porcelain using our in-office CEREC milling machine–all on the same day.

What Can a Crown Address?

A dental crown allows your dentist to address several different issues that may impact your oral function and appearance. These issues may include:

Damaged Tooth

A cracked or chipped tooth can be restored using a CEREC crown.

Decayed Tooth

A decayed tooth may benefit from a crown if the decay is too big for a filling or if a tooth would require multiple fillings.

Root Canal

Following a root canal, the tooth structure typically needs to be protected. A crown is placed to provide additional strength and protection.

Why Not Pull  a Damaged or Decayed Tooth?

Your dentist will do everything possible to preserve your natural teeth. A missing tooth can cause your other teeth to shift or become loose and can cause your jawbone to begin to deteriorate. This can necessitate dental procedures like dental implants and bone grafting later down the line.

In contrast, a crown allows your dentist to save the tooth structure while restoring the oral health and appearance of your smile.

Traditional Crowns vs. Same-Day Crowns

Many patients wonder if traditional crowns are superior to same-day CEREC crowns.

Durability

Same-day crowns are made of durable porcelain. With proper care, same-day crowns made using CEREC can last for 10 years or more, much like a traditional crown. For this reason, they are a great option to restore a damaged or decayed tooth on the back teeth.

Appearance

Although CEREC crowns work very well for the back of the mouth, we suggest that the front teeth use a traditional crown or even a dental veneer. The front teeth are more visible and a traditional crown can be shade-matched to blend with the color of your natural teeth. This will give your smile a more natural-looking appearance. With back teeth, a same-day crown will not be as visible and will blend in just fine, saving you the hassle of multiple trips and a temporary crown.
