Dr Wilkhu and his assistant Sabrina couldn’t have treated me any better. They did their best to make sure I was satisfied with the work I had done. I’ve always been afraid of the dentist, this time though I was comfortable and not nervous at all. I love my new smile....I’d highly recommend these folks.

Types of Dentures

Partial Dentures

A partial denture is a good option if you have gaps in your smile but still have some healthy teeth. A traditional partial denture is secured to a metal or acrylic framework on the natural teeth, supporting custom-made prosthetics in the areas of tooth loss. They can be used to replace upper or lower teeth.

Complete Dentures

Complete dentures, or full dentures, are designed to replace all the teeth on the upper or lower dental arch. Traditional complete dentures are removable, consisting of a gum-colored acrylic base and a full set of prosthetic teeth. The base suctions onto your gums and can be stabilized with a special dental adhesive.

If you have multiple areas of tooth loss, partial dentures can fill in the gaps to help restore your oral function and appearance.

Implant-Supported Dentures An Advanced Treatment Option

Our Merritt Island, FL, dentists have undergone additional training to provide state-of-the-art dental implants. Unlike traditional restorations that restore just the part of the tooth visible above the gumline, titanium dental implants are placed in the jawbone to act as artificial tooth roots.

Your implant-supported denture is secured to the titanium posts, providing an unbeatable level of stability and comfort. Furthermore, implant-supported restorations stay fixed in place at all times, so you can avoid the cumbersome and embarrassing maintenance that comes with removable options.

While implant-supported dentures provide a wealth of additional benefits, they also involve a more extensive procedure. Treatment takes place in multiple phases at our Merritt Island, FL, practice over several months.

Lifelike Detail and Premium Restorations

What to Expect When Receiving Handcrafted Dentures

For the past decade, our dentists have worked with a trusted local lab to create lifelike traditional and implant-supported dentures. We closely collaborate with the lab technicians to ensure the best possible results and your ultimate satisfaction.

After receiving your handcrafted custom prosthetic, we personally handle the steps of fitting and adjustments. Rather than sending your restorations off to the dental lab for modifications, we streamline the process and bring the lab capabilities to our Merritt Island office. Our modern methods increase treatment efficiency and produce dentures that more closely match the aesthetics of your natural teeth.

My name is Wade, and Dr Wilkhu was very honest and understanding. He took the time out of his busy day to confer with me. Also the dental hygienist helped me understand how the implants worked and showed me 3 different models. I was both honered and impressed with the whole team !

The Treatment Process

Treatment at our Merritt Island, FL, dental practice is slightly different for each patient, depending on your individual needs and the type of denture you have selected; however, treatment for traditional full and partial dentures generally consists of the following steps:
"Our dentists make any necessary modifications and adjustments to ensure a snug and comfortable fit."
"Our dentists make any necessary modifications and adjustments to ensure a snug and comfortable fit."

Preparatory Procedures

Before getting prosthetics, your gums and remaining teeth must be in good health. We can perform a range of restorative dentistry services to help you establish optimal oral health before treatment.

Detailed Impressions

Our dentists begin by taking detailed impressions of your smile to create a blueprint for your dentures. In addition to digital X-rays, we use a state-of-the-art cone beam CT scanner to capture the most precise 3D impressions.

Laboratory Fabrication

We send the impressions and designs to our partner dental lab to begin production. Depending on your needs and budget, your prosthetics can be made from various materials, including porcelain or acrylic.

Restoration

When your partial or full dentures are ready, you will return to the office for placement. During this time, our dentists make any necessary modifications and adjustments to ensure a snug and comfortable fit. Over the next few weeks, as your muscles grow and adapt, wearing the denture will gradually feel more natural.

Maintaining Your Dentures

With proper care, your new dentures can last for 10 years or more. Maintenance will depend on your type of dentures.

Traditional Denture Care

Remove your dentures and brush them with a soft-bristled brush and a nonabrasive denture cleanser to remove food and other debris. Make sure to remove the denture adhesive from the grooves and apply new adhesive before you put them back in your mouth. It is also advised to soak your dentures overnight in a denture cleanser while you sleep.

Implant-Supported Denture Care

Your implant-supported dentures are secured directly to the implants so you won't be able to remove them on your own, but your dentist may remove them during regular exams and cleanings. Brush your dentures as you would your natural teeth with a soft-bristled brush and nonabrasive toothpaste.

Additional Denture Services

Converting Your Dentures

After learning about the benefits of dental implants, you may decide you are interested in converting your existing prosthetics into implant-retained restorations. If your removable dentures are in good condition and you are a good candidate for dental implants, we may be able to adapt the restoration to attach to your implant posts.

Denture Repair

Although dentures should typically last about 10 years before needing replacement, accidents do happen. Regardless of how careful you are, dentures are slippery and can become damaged when accidentally dropped. In most cases, we can provide convenient same-day denture repair, so you do not have to struggle through daily life without teeth.

Insurance and Financing Options Available

Our Florida dental practice does not want financial barriers to prevent the patients of Merritt Island and surrounding communities from receiving the dental care they need. We accept most insurance plans and providers to help cover the cost of dentures. For those without insurance or to help with costs not covered by insurance, we accept CareCredit® financing. This breaks the cost of your treatment into affordable monthly payments with low or no interest. Contact us today to learn about financing options.
